Thank you to all the residents along Happy Hollow Road that were without driveway access for approximately 1.5 weeks. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated and allowed for a significant amount of work be completed in the most efficient manner possible. A major milestone was reached last Friday, the first layers of asphalt pavement were installed. This will provide a smooth driving surface as well as greatly reduce the amount of dust along Happy Hollow Road.

Along Happy Hollow Road, there will be a lot of work getting ready for the final asphalt surface layer to be paved prior to the start of the school year. There will still be a significant amount of activity along Happy Hollow Road, but likely not as many crews as previous weeks.

This week the contractor will begin installing and grading topsoil as well as installing sod along Happy Hollow Road, Rebecca Lane, and Lawson Road. The contractor will continue to water the sod once it is installed until a healthy stand of grass is established.

Along Rebecca Lane, the underground utility improvements are now completed!!!  The contractor will begin the roadway improvements phase of the project. This work will consist of removing and replacing concrete curb & gutter, driveways, and sidewalks scheduled to be replaced or that were damaged during construction and asphalt patching of the gravel trench where the water main was installed. The entire roadway will have the existing asphalt surface milled and repaved prior to the start of the school year.

The 2nd section of concrete pavement will be removed and poured this week along Greenwood Road at the intersections of Rebecca Lane and Happy Hollow Road. Thank you for all your cooperation and patience as you travel through this intersection. Please use caution.

As you have seen, there has been a lot of work completed in the past few months and the major construction is schedule to be completed prior to the start of the fall school year, just 3 weeks away!!!

Thanks again for all your patience, understanding, and cooperation!!!

·         Water Service Replacements along Rebecca Lane
·         Depending on work progress and scheduling, milling existing asphalt along Lawson Road and Rebecca Lane.

Along Rebecca Lane, the required testing and process to receive the necessary approvals to place the new water main into service is underway. We are anticipating getting all approvals the beginning of next week. The contractor has started excavating for water service replacements, with anticipation of beginning water service replacement on Monday or Tuesday. Water services will be replaced from the new water main to the existing valve and box located in front of each home. During the water service replacement, water to individual homes will be shut-off for approximately 2-3 hours while the transition from the old service to the new service is made. The contractor will notify each resident individually regarding the approximate time and day of the water shut-off prior to turning off the water.

Once the water service replacements along Rebecca Lane are completed, the contractor will begin the roadway improvements phase of the project on Rebecca Lane. The roadway improvements will include patching the excavated area, milling the top surface off the existing pavement, making spot concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk repairs, and installing a new asphalt surface layer. The roadway improvements are not as significant as those occurring along Happy Hollow Road, where the entire roadway is being reconstructed.

Happy Hollow has had a lot of activity over the past week in preparation for the concrete curb & gutter installation. It is anticipated all the concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveway work will be completed by the middle of next week. The only exception is the driveway entrance to Willowbrook School which will be completed after access to all other driveways is restored.

If all goes as planned and there are no significant delays in production or due to weather, the first layers of asphalt pavement will be installed along Happy Hollow Road by the end of next week. Once the first layers of asphalt pavement are installed, the amount of dust will be greatly reduced and driveway access will be restored. We are extremely grateful for the patience and understanding from all the residents that live along Happy Hollow Road. These residents will be without driveway access for over a week to allow for the concrete installation and curing, as well as the roadway paving to be performed in the most efficient manner possible.  THANK YOU!!!!

Also next week the contractor will begin concrete pavement replacement along Greenwood Road at the intersections of Happy Hollow Road and Rebecca Lane. This work will be performed in phases to allow for one lane of traffic along Greenwood Road. However, we expect some travel delays as both lanes of traffic will need to access a single lane. Please use caution while traveling along Greenwood Road. Due to performing the work in phases, it will take 2-3 weeks to complete the concrete pavement repairs within the intersections. This will allow for proper concrete curing prior to opening the lanes to traffic and beginning the next phase of the intersection.

Thank you again to all the residents within the neighborhood for your patience and understanding. The project is moving along smoothly and ahead of schedule due to your cooperation. Getting the first layer of asphalt pavement installed along Happy Hollow Road will be a major project milestone and will greatly reduce some of the significant travel delays and dust along Happy Hollow Road. Please use caution and be patient traveling along Greenwood Road for the next few weeks as the intersection work will be on-going.

The contractor is anticipating to complete the water main installation along Rebecca Lane next week and begin performing the required tests and receiving the necessary approvals to place the new water main into service. Water service replacements along Rebecca Lane are anticipated to begin the week of July 25th.

The roadway improvements along Happy Hollow Road with excavation of the existing pavement and installation of aggregate base course has started and will continue through next week. During the roadway excavation phase, the driveways within the daily work area will be restricted. The contractor will provide notice as to which day your driveway access will be restricted. We request you have your vehicles out of your driveways and garages by 7:00 AM the day work adjacent to your home is expected to be completed. Access will be restored by 5:00 PM or early depending on work progress.

Depending on work progress, the contractor will begin installing a string line and grading the under the proposed concrete curb & gutter in preparation for pouring new concrete curb & gutter. Once the string line is installed and concrete work begins, residents will be restricted from their driveways for an extended period of time, approximately 1 ½ weeks. This extended period of time is to allow for the contractor to complete concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveway installation; allowing proper time for the concrete to cure; grading and installing additional aggregate base course on the roadway; and paving the first layers of asphalt pavement. As the schedule is finalized, residents will be notified regarding the timing of this work to be performed and when access to your driveways is expected to be restored.

There is a lot of construction activity along Happy Hollow Road, Lawson Road, and Rebecca Lane as the contractor continues to meet the construction schedule and get as much work as possible completed prior to the start of school. Please you caution as you walk and travel through the construction zones.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as you have been dealing with water main shut-downs, travel delays due to work along Greenwood Road and neighboring streets, dusty conditions, and driveway restrictions. We understand the significant inconveniences these cause to your daily lives and are committed to limiting them to the greatest extent possible.

The contractor will complete the water service replacements along Happy Hollow Road and Lawson Road this week.

The water services on the north side of Happy Hollow Road (opposite side of street from the new water main) will be directionally drilled under the existing pavement. The water services on the south side of Happy Hollow Road (same side of the street as the new water main) will be open cut due to the close proximity between the water main and water service connection.

The contractor will also be making the final connections between the existing water main and newly installed water main. Water will be shut-off for a period of time during these water main connections. The Village Water Department will notify residents affected by the water shut-down the day prior to the work being performed.

Once the water service replacements and water main connections are completed, a project milestone will be met. All underground utility work along Happy Hollow Road and Lawson Road will be completed!!!

The next phase of construction along Happy Hollow Road is roadway reconstruction. The contractor will begin removing the existing concrete pavement, removing unstable materials below the existing pavement, and installing a new aggregate base course for the asphalt pavement. The contractor will begin at Greenwood Road and work west to the Phase I limits. It is anticipated to take 1-1/2 weeks to complete the roadway excavation phase. During this phase, travelling along Happy Hollow Road will be very difficult and you may be asked to use alternates routes. Access to driveways in the location of the roadway excavation will be restricted for the day they are working adjacent to your home.  The contractor will provide notice prior to blocking or restricting access to your driveway.  Access will be provided by the end of each day.

A second phase of construction will also begin next week, water main replacement along Rebecca Lane. The contractor will begin at Greenwood Road and work towards Happy Hollow Road. For those residents that live along Rebecca Lane, this will be the beginning of the major construction along your street. The water main replacement will be very similar to what you noticed with your neighbors along Happy Hollow.  During the water main construction, access to your driveway will be provided throughout a majority of the project; however, there will be instances when the contractor has excavated a trench adjacent to your driveway to install the new water main when access will be restricted.  The contractor will provide advance notice so you may move your vehicles prior to access being restricted. You will have access by the end of each day and should only last a few hours. There will also be residents with their water shut-off to perform the connection between the existing water main and new water main. The Village Water Department will provide notification the day prior to the work occurring.

There is a lot of construction activity along Happy Hollow Road, Lawson Road, and Rebecca Lane as the contractor continues to meet the construction schedule and get as much work as possible completed prior to the start of school. Please you caution as you walk and travel through the construction zones.

Thanks again as you deal with dusty conditions, travel delays, driveway restrictions, water shut-down, and all the various inconveniences experienced living within a construction area. Your patience, understanding, and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
